Medisoft... Software Subscription Service

Wouldn't it be great if you could amortize the cost of annual Medisoft upgrades over the period of a year at zero interest?

Well, now you can!  MASHNET now offers Medisoft Software Subscription Services, which allow you to pay a low

monthly fee, which amortizes the cost of your upgrade to the next released version.  For example, if you are using

Medisoft v23 and wish to upgrade next year to v24 then you simply inquire as to the monthly fee applicable until the release of

v24.  Pay that fee and when v24 is released you will receive it at no further charge.  Sales tax is calculated into the monthly fee

where applicable.

Medisoft... Should I Upgrade

In past years MASHNET has not been an advocate of upgrading Medisoft with every new release.  Simply stated, the cost outweighed

the annual upgrade benefits.  But that has changed significantly, especially with the latest release just announced by the publisher.

In addition to a price increase, the publisher continues to demonstrate a willingness to make the software better with each release

while limiting the number of intermediate patches to fix specific faults.  Combined with ongoing regulatory changes, the trend of

upgrading every two to three releases has reversed.  We think it's time to take a closer look at the compelling reasons why annual

upgrades should be considered.

The first reason is regulatory.  There has been no slow-down in the release of new regulatory compliance issues whether by government

or insurance companies.  In other words, providers are having to jump through more and more hoops in order to get paid.  It makes

more sense to upgrade in order to achieve compliance than to have staff trying to resolve these issues with patched together workarounds.

Annual upgrades will ensure that the latest compliance issues are fully addressed and incorporated in the latest software releases.

Secondly, the publisher is not releasing Service Packs, or patches as often as in previous releases when you could count on at least one or

two service packs with each release.  Instead, they seem to be concentrating efforts on regulatory and insurance compliance issues while

fixing faults within the scope of the next scheduled annual release.  

Finally, let's consider cost.  The publisher continues to raise prices year over year and we can expect this to continue into the forseeable

future.  The offset to price increases has been that with each new release the publisher also provides heavily discounted promotional pricing

that benefits those who are upgrading from the latest current version to the "soon to be released" next version.  As a result, Medisoft users

can save 10 - 20 percent, depending on promotional pricing.  This means that over a period of three-years that the annual upgrade will cost

10 - 20 percent less than waiting that same three years while prices continue to increase.  When taken into consideration with other factors

already mentioned, we think that the benefit of upgrading annually is more compelling and a better overall value.
